Off The Beaten Track
These are a few lesser known, but very worthwhile things to see. You won't find them on any must-see list of Cape Town, so you will avoid the hordes of people during the busiest months, and get to see something unique, yet quintessentially Capetonian.
Bringing in the Day's Catch in Hout Bay
Head to Hout Bay harbour when you can watch the fisherman brining in their daily catch. Boats arrive in early afternoon and unload the fish onto the harbour wall. There is a bustle of activity as fish are sold, seagulls hover overhead and seals frolic in the water waiting for scraps. Snoek is the predominant fish caught and a large one can be purchased for R25. There is a R2 per vehicle entrance fee to the harbour area.
Walking up Lion's Head at full moon
Join a handful of Capetonians (or hordes on a prefect night) who, at dusk, walk up Lion's Head on a full moon night, or when the moon will be bright, and sit on the top admiring the lit up city below and the beautiful glow emitting from the moon above. But please do not head up there when it's dark and there's no moon as this could be dangerous.
